EMPEA appoints Aureos Advisers’ CEO to its Board of Directors

  • PE Executive adds global SME investing perspective
  • The Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) has appointed Sev Vettivetpillai, CEO of Aureos Advisers Ltd, to its Board of Directors.

Aureos is a leading private equity fund management company specialising in investing in small to mid-cap businesses in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

EMPEA is the industry’s global member-based association established to promote a greater understanding of and a more favourable climate for investing in emerging markets. It was founded with the belief that private equity can be a critical driver of economic growth in emerging markets while simultaneously generating strong returns for investors.

The appointment was announced during the EMPEA Board Meeting held at the occasion of the 5th Annual Emerging Markets Private Equity Forum in London on 3-4 of November 2009. Sev will become the first fund manager on the EMPEA Board having a global footprint in emerging markets that focuses exclusively on investments in small- to medium-sized businesses.

Sev Vettivetpillai brings over 15 years of private equity investment experience in emerging markets. Sev was appointed CEO of Aureos Advisers Ltd in July 2004. Prior to this, he was Chief Investment Officer. Under his direction, Aureos has increased its funds under management to over US$1.2 billion and has established 16 regional private equity funds.

Roger Leeds, Chairman of EMPEA comments: “We are pleased to have someone of Sev’s calibre joining our governing Board. His knowledge of the small to mid-cap segment in emerging markets will be an invaluable addition to EMPEA, especially since we expect investors’ interest in the SME investing space to continue to grow”

Sev comments: “I am delighted to be appointed to the Board of EMPEA. The support EMPEA provides to investors and fund managers investing in the emerging markets is very important. Aureos has been a member of EMPEA since its early days, and we have seen the association grow into a valuable platform bringing together all stakeholders involved in emerging markets private equity. I look forward to supporting EMPEA in its mission to further promote private equity investment in emerging markets.”
